DESCRIPTION
Located on the slopes of Providence's College Hill, the Rhode Island
Historical Society's John Brown House Museum is a "must-see" stop
on Gallery Night. Built in 1786-8 and enlarged and embellished by
subsequent owners, this grand mansion not only features incomparable
architecture and extraordinary decorative arts but also tells the
compelling stories of the generations of Browns and others who lived
and worked there during three centuries.
Founded in 1822, the Rhode Island Historical Society
is the nation's fourth oldest state historical society and is today
the steward of some 30,000 artifacts and 500,000 library items.
The Society maintains its research library and John Brown House
Museum in Providence and operates the Museum of Work & Culture
in Woonsocket. The Society's ongoing public and educational programming
includes publication of the historical journal Rhode Island History
and the presentation of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and tours.
Shop ‘til you Drop! One of our most enthusiastic
guides, Sarah Tallarico (the West Side Tour Guide) will be
leading our second annual November Shopping Tour. The tour will visit a selection
of galleries from each route and leave plenty of time for browsing and purchasing
unique gifts.
From Sarah - "I am a local artist who has been working
for Gallery Night as a tour guide for three years and I absolutely love it!
I look forward to guiding the shopping tour once again this year which gives
participants a unique opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind gifts for those
art lovers and special people in your life. The Holidays are right around the
corner, let's start celebrating next Thursday in anticipation!"
The tour starts from Citizens Plaza at 5:30 pm.
